Day 75: Table for Three

We finally hit the time in the season for the restaurants to start putting out their outdoor tables.  We love to take Bailey out with us to eat, and he loves to tag along.  When I asked him today if he “wanted to go get burgers” he sprinted to the door, and nearly dragged me (if a 15lb dog was capable of dragging me) as we walked to our favorite burger restaurant,  Boston Burger Company.

When people pass by us eating outside with Bailey they probably think we are crazy.  Bailey almost always spends his meals with us in his own chair at the table.  Now there is a perfectly good reason for it, and it’s not because we are crazy dog people (although I kinda am).

Bailey is a busybody when we are out and about.  He isn’t like some dogs where he will just sit or lay quietly at our feet.   He is constantly moving around whether it to be to sniff and lick the ground for crumbs left by the last people who ate at the table, to walk back and forth between us,  or to try to greet other dogs walking by.  This normally results in him completely and nonstop tangling his leash between the legs of the tables and chairs.  It’s annoying to have to worry about when you just want to enjoy a nice outdoor meal.

So our solution is to stick him up in his own chair.  He can’t move around.  He can’t eat anything and everything off the ground.  He can’t try to run off to say hi to other dogs or people.  He is perfectly calm and chill in his chair, always sitting or laying down, happy to just relax and people watch (and beg for food).

We get some crazy looks from people as they walk by.  A lot of people think it’s a silly sight to see a dog sitting at the table, and it is.  Although there are so many people that also will comment on how well-behaved he is.  He never once tries to jump on the table.  He doesn’t try to get all up in our food.  He is a perfectly mannered dog while we are dining al fresco… as long as he is in his own chair.

Day 51: Bailey Goes to College

I’m in a bit of a rush today.  I haven’t done any post processing on today’s photo.  This is literally straight of the camera.  I don’t even have the time or energy to put on the watermark.

We had another playdate with Gaston.  Even though we don’t live in the country, we are lucky enough to live near many dog friendly places and parks.  We also live right by a university and the fields there are where we bring Bailey most often.   Our favorite place is the “President’s Lawn” which is a big grassy hill behind where the President lives on campus.  On nice days like today, many college students are out and about or relaxing out in the sun.  Bailey and Gaston don’t mind.  It just gives them obstacles to run around.

They also like when unsuspecting college students fall asleep and leave their water cup open and unattended.  We apologized profusely, but she didn’t seem to be bothered too much by the fact that they just snaked her water.  Bailey also went over and woke her up at one point.  She hadn’t moved in a while and he was just checking to make sure she was okay ;)

A Day of Photos from Castle Island

So here are more photos from today’s outing at Castle Island.  I had so much fun today taking pictures, and it’s always nice to be able to expand my subject matter a little bit.  While we were out, Chelsea (Fenway’s Mom) mentioned how she never has any photos of her and Fenway together, so I took it on myself to turn today’s outing into a photoshoot of her and Fenway.  I think that I got some pretty good shots :)

In addition to me having fun with my camera, it was a blast just to walk around with the dogs.  There were so many people and dogs out and about and it was just a beautiful day to be outside.  The dogs played, and walked, and posed and had tons of fun :)

So there is a story behind the last photos of Bailey in the tree.  They had some of those trees up on the hill and they just looked so cool with their winding, twisting branches.  So before we left, I wanted to go up there for some pictures.  I realized when we got up close that it would be difficult to capture their “coolness” in photos up close.  Craig made a silly suggestion about putting Bailey in the tree for the photos, and of course I was like “Yes!  Lets do it!”  Bailey was a good sport about it and sat in the tree despite being super confused as to why we stuck him up there.  Best part of all, he stayed perfectly still for the photos because he had nowhere to go :P

Well that’s it.  This is the first time in a while that I have had such a hard time choosing between photos to post.  I think today was a pretty successful outing and photoshoot :)

Day 21: Kings of the Castle! (or Castle Island)

Today was an absolutely wonderful day.  The snow from yesterday quickly melted with the beautiful sunny 50 degree weather.  The 60s and 70s are more my ideal weather, but it still felt great out today.

We spent the day with Bailey’s oldest friend, Fenway.  Fenway and Bailey were in the same Puppy Obedience training class when they were 4 months old.   Fenway is Bailey’s “Best Big Friend.”  Fenway is the only big dog that Bailey will wrestle with.  Other big dogs, he is nervous about them getting too rough and hurting him.  Fenway, on the other hand, can chew on Bailey and treat him like his own personal squeaky toy, and Bailey absolutely loves it.

We ventured out to a place on the Boston Harbor called Castle Island.  This was our first time bringing Bailey there and it was really nice.  We decided that going there will become a regular thing.  I’m going to do a second post later, either today or tomorrow, with more photos (I got tons…) and stories from today’s outing, but I wanted to get today’s 365 photo up first.
